Taking place in Birmingham, Alabama, South Wales Police Football Club will represent Wales at the World Police and Fire Games 2025.
As one of the team’s main sponsors, Riverside’s logo will feature proudly on the front of the team’s shirts during training.
Bringing together thousands of athletes from around the world, the World Police & Fire Games is an Olympic-style competition. Members of law enforcement and fire services compete across 60 different sports.
Having participated in the games for over 30 years, the South Wales Police Football team are especially proud to honour the 60th anniversary.
On 15th September 1963, the Ku Klux Klan bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. They tragically killed four young girls and injured many others. In response, a fundraising campaign led by the Western Mail in Wales raised money for a replacement stained-glass window in their memory. Designed by Carmarthenshire artist John Petts, the window was gifted to the church on behalf of the people of Wales.
The church’s acceptance letter noted:
Wales was the only country to offer such direct and material assistance.
Since 2023, the Welsh Government and the City of Birmingham have entered into an International Friendship Pact. This aims to promote and develop economic relations and trade between both communities.
